Airguns: The Early Years

I got to talking with my younger brother the other day and we started reminiscing about those early days in San Diego, California when we each got our first BB guns. I got mine first on my birthday in 1970. My brother got his a couple months later in May. From then on our favorite pass time was to roam the hills and badlands of pre-suburbia San Diego hunting small birds and lizards. I am pretty sure that the first guns we got were Daisy's. Man did we have fun. We would spend entire days wandering the wide open spaces down along the Mexico border trying to outshoot each other.  Another memory was that my mother would not let us shoot up all the bb's in one day so she would give us each twenty-five. We would shoot those and spend hours looking through the grass for ones we had shot.

I remember one afternoon we were down near the border and decided we would hide in a tree that was growing out of a gully and see if any birds would land. We sat for about ten minutes before my brother got bored and shot at one of the branches. All of a sudden the tree was raining Mexicans. They had been sleeping up the branches and we did not see them. Scared the crap out of us. But they were more scared of us and ran off.  Crazy Gringos.

About two years later I got my first "serious" pellet rife. We had moved into a more populated area so I did not get to shoot it that much but I remember loving that gun. And again...I can't remember what it was. Maybe someone will see these pictures and tell me.
