Steve Darrall's custom Crosmans

"I hope to offer people in the UK and elsewhere custom Crosman rifles and pistols, custom parts and accessories that can be used on the 22XX series of guns".

I'll let Steve tell you what he does in his own words:

I always do as much to the guns as I can. As you can see from the pics all the breeches, bolts, grips, trigger shoes and bulk parts are all bought in the USA as most of that stuff is just not available here in the UK. The triggers are always lightened and I shim the sides of the sear and trigger to tighten and centralize the parts and polish the sear faces. I have used Steve Hardings (aka Steve in the Falls) trigger stops to good affect too, also I have a Charlie Da Tuna super sear in another rifle.

The long pistol with blood wood handles and scope has a custom made single stage fully adjustable trigger in it made by a friend of mine, and that is fantastic. The hammer is also highly polished too. Valve mods are always part of the tune, and I stick pretty much to Bio's valve tune guide with one or two little differences. I set the pistols to around 5.5 fpe in the cold so as I don't go over the UK limit of 6 fpe in the Summer. As for the rifles it all depends on barrel length.

A standard 2250 is usually taken up to 10.5 fpe and 24" barreled rifles always go much higher, but I always back then off to give less power (under 12fpe) and more consistent shots. I always use Crosman barrels but on some of the guns I use a delrin or steel barrel shroud to give the effect of a bull barrel, the shroud on the AS2250 has a built in silencer which is very nice. Again my friend makes these shrouds for me as he has a full machine shop.

The re- blued guns were done by Webley in Birmingham, but sadly they have gone to the wall and closed up just before Christmas, so I will now have to look for another supplier for my bluing. The Crooked Barn breeches had also been anodized to give a much nicer look to match the rest of the gun.

I try as much as possible to do all the work myself with the tools I have to hand. I have a very small workshop and use a bench drill, a Dremmel, a power drill fixed in a vice to turn the parts and the usual selection of files and general workshop tools. I have tried to cut and re crown barrels myself but never get as good a result as doing it in a lathe.

New from Steve

"The parts are mostly standard Crosman bits, as is the breech. The bolt is from CB and the grips I made myself out of a piece of ash skirting board and then spray painted black. The barrel shroud is made from delrin and turned down to match the ID of the Crosman breech. The front sight is from a European centerfire rifle and the rear sight is from  Ebay, but I guess it's off a Chinese air rifle. The trigger shoe is again from Ebay but is for a paintball gun. I have tuned the trigger but have not got round to doing anything else yet. I will have all the metal parts reblued sometime soon so they all match".
