Barrel Shroud

How to make a cheap barrel shroud...
Several people have asked about this as of late so I will repeat it here and use photobucket so the pics will stay.
1- I needed a tube used a hot water tank siphon tube
because I saw it standing there.
Some sort of plastic to hold it to the gun. I used 3/4" delrin round stock.
Must have some way of attaching it to the barrel used that wonderful JB WELD epoxy and a couple set screws.
That's it on the parts. Often parts can be found that will be close enough of a fit that machining is not needed. You just need to search the hardware stores diligently.
2- Delrin needs turned down to the ID of the tube. I used a lathe as it must be smooth and straight. If I could have found something with an OD that matched the ID of the tube I would have not needed the lathe.
3- Drill a .28 hole through the entire 3 1/4" piece.
4- Then drill a 7/16ths hole 2 " deep in one side.
5- Cut from the small holed end at 1" and after that once at 3/4"
then at half inch intervals. I now had one 1" long end plug, One barrel end and three tube support rings/ doughnuts
I put an angle on the nearest to the breech for looks
6- Here is the order to install them. It is best to drill and tap the rear most plug for set screws before it is installed on the gun. It should first be pushed into the tube as the holes need to be drilled and tapped all the way through the tube and plug. Then remove it from the tube and install it on the barrel. Remember to line up the holes when you pull the shroud over the barrel.
7- Then epoxy the donut shaped pieces to the barrel. Epoxy the end plug with the .28 hole in the front end of the tube. Drill and tap the tube plug, muzzle end, for set screws when it is dry. Try not to drill all of the way through the plug for most even gas flow although it will not be the end of the world if you do.
8- Pull the tube over the barrel and epoxy it to the plug nearest the breech. Let it dry for 24 hours. Install set screws in the front and rear plugs to hold them more securely after the epoxy is dry. The rear set screws extended to the top of the tube through the plug and hit on the barrel. A small piece of plastic or rubber can be inserted in the hole before the set screw to keep the barrel from being marred.
Now is a good time to paint it I thought wish I had done it earlier. Used black vinyl color paint it scratches off real easy until its been on for a few days/weeks.
