Tim in NC's 2240 Sue in NC's Hex Gun
My son wanted to have a gun like dad’s “Poke a Dot” gun (my 1377), so he picked out these parts. The grips are a special youth size that Rick at http://www.airgrips.com made and the aluminum and stainless parts were all made by Art at http://www.arts-shack.com

Ben is five years old, hopefully he will remember his first gun like I remember the first given to me by my father.
Here is my second custom airgun. Tim posted my first gun. The grips are Ralph Grips, the muzzle break is by Larry, and the rest of the brass pieces are made by Art. I have to say one thing that when you order the custom gun from crosman, the finish is much better. They sand the seams down and the warning message is much smaller. The bluing is also darker. What do you think of this one?

It appears that Tim has a terrible addiction. What is this now? Five...six modded guns in 2 weeks?!! Tim...step back...take a deep breath...there are enough guns for all of us.
These two guns are to take care of mice and rats around our barn. They started out being dull looking guns. But I just could not leave them plain looking for long. So I started adding custom parts and over time they ended up looking like this. With all shine on the guns, even if I don’t hit the rats with a pellet, they could go blind just looking at the guns.
The 2240 is for the short range near the barn shooting. And the 2250 is my rat sniper rifle. When the weather warms up I can lie out on the deck and watch the barn for movement.

The 2240 has parts from Art, Larry, Rick, Roy, Airgunsmith, and Alan at ABAirgun.

The 2250 has parts from all the people above as well as a long RJ breech .

Tim in NC and his wife are having a baby. Diapers, formula, rattle...bb gun?
Don't worry we know she can't use it until at least 5 years old. We just thought she should have one too since my husband, 5 year old son and I, all have a custom 2240. She'll be born tomorrow, that's why we're posting pictures today. This gun started of as collection of spare parts from the other guns we created.

The parts are:
Benjamin EB Grip Frame from Alan at http://www.abairgun.com
Grips from Rick at http://www.airgrips.com/
Bolt from Roy at http://www.mountainaircustomairguns.com/
Breech & Trigger shoe from http://www.crosman.com/
Brake, Co2 Cap, Power Adjuster and barrel shroud from Art at http://www.arts-shack.com/

Another Beauty from Tim
You know...for being relatively new at this...he does have an eye.
The CO2 tube was made out of a sheet of brass. This is my first attempt at making my own part.
The grips are from Rick, the front sight is from Larry, the CO2 cap and power adjuster is from Art. the trigger is from Sid, and the bolt is from Roy.

And a CO2 tube cover made by me.

I could think of haven't chronyed yet. But it is putting holes in 1/2 plywood...idea for the stock came from Larry

George Ewen's 2240 SS (Short and Sturdy)
I just put the grip frame in the milling machine and cut a notch into it. It could be done with a file if you have the time and energy.  As for the shorter barrel I can see no difference in accuracy,,,,,,,,,,,,,but I think that it is louder.  and the way it looks and feels

Rich in Mich
Cool! Now which size pellets do you take with for shooting.
I did not like the way a pellet loaded in my 2240's so I made me a custom side loading riser breach from brass hex stock. To tell you it works is an under statement, you can now just push the pellet into the barrel with ease, and the barrel is screwed into the breach so I can change to a .20 barrel without tearing down the rifle of changing the bolt. I made the barrel so the o ring seats on the outer edge of the barrel and it works just fine. I am making them for all 4 of my 2240's and doing two in aluminum and another is brass.

My Next Project for a side loading breach

Shawn's Urban Squirrel Gun

Obviously, The inspiration of this rifle was provided by Zombieheadhunter's "Headhunter Carbine". When he posted his work, I immediately knew that that was the direction for my first project. We are very lucky to have a U.S. based airgun manufacturer that is willing to sell parts to Joe average.

The rifle started straight out of the bubble pack from AOA. I cut the tube down to match the length of RJ Machine's Long Breech. Modified the valve per Biohazardman's and Tim millers suggestions. Installed the QB adapter to accommodate a WEVO 13 cu. in., 3000psi tank. I went through several different paintball regulators and settled on one from Pure Energy. The regulator is modified to put out 1200 psi. The barrel started life as a 2260 barrel. It's final length settled in at 21". There was no real reason for this length, it just took me a few attempts to get the crown just right. The barrel is finished off with a home made Muzzle Brake. Again, it shows my lack of lathe skills. But the next one will be even better. It is very effective though. The other end has one of Gil's adjustable stocks on it. His products are very well made, and the price is right. Finally, the gun was finished in Woodland Green Dura-Coat. Using the Dura-Coat was a new experience for me as well. The finish has a few flaws, but overall I'm very happy with it. I will definetly get a better airbrush. I used one from Harbor Freight that was so so.

The results are as follows:
70 shots, average velocity 774.8 FPS, using CPH's. Starting fill pressure of 3000 psi. Ending pressure of 900 psi.
This rifle is gift to my brother. So I'll get to start my next gun soon, and best of all, I'll be be building on the knowledge of the first USG

LarryR's 2240

Larry sure is a craftsman, look at those grips

Just about got this finished (for now...LOL) Added a stippled walnut matching forearm to go with the 10m grips.
Also added a Williams notch sight. The valve is stock. For the distance I shoot this pistol, it made no sense to me to mod the valve.

I was after shot consistency, accuracy and could not get it. It is 7.5" 22 cal. barrel and about 20 shots around 458 fps and dropping off to 415 around the 25th shot.

Reworked the trigger to 1.25 lbs. Works smooth, but not a great trigger :>). Under 1 lb and it fired without touching the trigger when bumped.

Later I changed out to a 10.5", .177 barrel with a Steve's HDD. Now getting around 55 good shots with a top range of 575 fps to 408 fps by shot 55.

Two things I really like about the HDD, the gun shoots quieter and the number of shots i'm now getting. IMO, the HDD is a device really worth the money!

Anyway, here are a few photos of the project (may end up modding the valve also...hehehe)

Brent's 2240 "Proto-Sniper"

Love the grips and brass on this one.

Just finished this one. After haveing a Custom 2240 done by Roy I had to do one myself just to say I did it. here is the end result. I must say it was very fun to build & very easy to boot.. If anyone out there doesn`t think they should or can, You have to try it!! Outside Parts on this gun consists of Brass end caps & Fiber Optic front sight from Roy, RJ Machine regular Right with cutout Breech, RB Gold Miner Grips which I got lucky & got 2 sets of the Target variants. anyone interested he did say he had a few Sportsman sets left only 25 sets of each were done. A set of Kwik-Site mounts & a Tasco Pro-Point makes for one AWESOME tack driver.

Brent's First Custom

Roy built this one for Brent.  Brent liked it so much that he built the "Proto-Sniper" above

Recieved this Saturday afternoon around 4:30pm.  I scoped it & placed it`s new skins on it & by 5:00pm I was putting .22`s in a penny sized circle at 30 yards a HUGE THANKS goes out the Roy Weid for building such a AWESOME piece of art, Ralph @ RB Grips for his beautiful Gold Miner Grips, & Robert @ RJ Machine for his wondeful High Rise Breech...Im seriously HOOKED & Im already starting on one myself as parts come in I`ll be doing the work in my spare time Im shooting for open sights on this one I think who knows ??...I still have a Brass Co2 end cap for this one in route which will only make it look MO-BETTER.

Rob in NC's 2240 PCP

Shiny! Nice Lam's too

Next up…. And my BABY… is a 2240 PCP by Joe. This gun started out as an AWESOME 2240 built by Art Braden. The gun was perfect, but I am not much of a CO2 guy. Joe made a custom PCP tube, valve, and hammer for it. Bottom line is 20 shots at around 16-18fpe. More if I accept a wider velocity spread. Only thing missing now is a silver trigger shoe from Gil and the package will be PERFECT.

Rob in NC's QB

This one is getting around 30 shots at 22fpe. VERY consistent and very accurate.  the gun was made
by Joe Bontrager. The stock is a Richards Micro Fit stock that Rob
finished....

Mig Rod's 2240

This is a nice camo 2240

This is my 2240 with all mods done by myself with simple tools. The valve is modified for high power shots since I use it for hunting and pest control. The trigger and hammer were smoothed out for crisp let off. All the springs were replaced from the valve spring, trigger spring and hammer spring. The camo paint was done using green and brown colors with my own homemade stencils. Put some camo wrap for better grip. Replaced the stock barrel with a 24 inch 2260 barrel, which made a big difference in using up all the power of the modified valve, it shoots now with way more power than I will ever need. Installed an extra barrel band for added stability with the rifle scope. The shroud was made using an aluminum electric tubing and insulation. It is not for noise but looks and better weight balancing. This baby is a tack driver, hits hard and scary accurate. The best part, I turned a simple pistol into a hunting beast with only around 50 extra bucks and some simple mods done at my work shop.

Kevin's Creation
Here is my latest little baby.  It’s a Crossman 2240 base modified with a MA .25 cal top end set, 14” barrel, CB Ultimate Breech, RB Zebrawood Grips, B&A BOSS Valve, MA Delrin Muzzle Brake, MA Trigger Guide and Spring, trigger tune, and Leapers Golden Image Red/Green Dot Sight.  This is a really fun gun to shoot, with tons of knock down power and accuracy that rivals my 2200 carbine

Brent's MA2540 "ICED" Gun

I have named this one "ICED" due to the Ice Storm that is ROCKING us right now.(03/06/08)

This is a Custom MA2540 by Roy Weid from Mountain Air Custom Airguns based off a 2240 frame & tube Roy added a RJ Machine High Rise Breech by Robert & then the fun started..... it was CUSTOM machined to fit a 12" .25 Caliber Lothar/Wather barrel which was then covered with a Carbon Fiber Shroud & added to the mix with satin Aluminum end caped... Roy also added a Stainless Extended  Probe with a Large Aluminum Knob to the RJ Breech smooth as silk. I had Gil Make the Custom Double Narled Co2 End Cap out of Satin Aluminum along with a Rear when I change between the Custom Wire Stock which was also made by Gil.  CUSTOM Airgun Artisans Grips By Bruce Cox Supplied to me by "Tim & Sue".....  Dug up a BKL 253 1 Piece Mount from Straight Shooters & mounted it along with a 6x32 BugBuster..... this puppy is Tossin lead at 580+ indoors at 78 degrees Im sure she`ll do really good this summer in the 80`s....as of right now It`s puttin pellet in a Dime size hole at 20 meters & couldn`t be happier. Thanks to everyone that was involved on this one it is truely a ONE OF A KIND Piece!!! it will be cherished.... GROUNDHOG`S BEWARE hahahahaha... :-)

Rick's 2240 Stace Project

This is my modded 2240 that I have been slowly putting together. Most of the upgrades are from Grant Stace. From Grant, I have acquired the breech and barrel band setup and bolt assembly. Then came the Stace trigger (this makes the 2240 feel like my Browning Buckmark) plus the tri winged gas cap, and finally the brass sight which puts a nice finishing touch to the 2240. I think the next thing for me to do to this project is to remove the "This is a toy" writing on the side. That will have to be a Spring project. I did this to my other 2240, but the writing wasn't as deeply engraved on the tube. I may try to pick up another tube somewhere and then work it over little by little, and then change it out, so I don't have pieces to try to keep track of during the project.
I really like the heft that the quality metal parts give to this pistol.

Many thanks to Grant Stace, who make these beautiful upgrades available.

Jordi Pynol's Mods

Mods in the 2240 are:
The breech and bolt  are from Crooked Barn.
I did trigger guide and spring, trigger tune,
The rear sight are an original spare from Gamo whit fiber optic.
The front sight are original from a Qb78 de Luxe, with and handmade inox pipe for adapter the11 mm original barrel size to15 mm.
The grips and forearm stock are home made by me with laminated wood.

In the Qb88 the mods are:
Total tuning in the power plant, transfer, spring guides and main
spring. You can see my work (in spanish) in this forum:
http://www.armas.es/foro/foro.php?TEMA=62&MEN=623411&T=TUNING_TOTALarmas_de_resorte
Trigger from Charlie da Tuna.
Rework the original stock, finish with oil and wax.
I put more weight in the barrel whit an iron pipe diameter 20 mm for
more accuracy.

Tom's Daughter 2240 Carbine

Tech form self modified valve mods, 2-stage sear trigger mods, Cutters breech, shortened stock... ash forearm unfinished, I made using a spade bit  to drill tube hole to slip over the valve tube.   I plan on shaping it a bit more and coloring it.  .  The stock was simply cut shorter and refastened with long SS deck screws, the joints covered with black cord Turks head knots.  Scope is 4X Leapers bugbuster, cabela rings.... 2006. I really like their style. It has a 2250 barrel..

Tom's 1377 Carbine

RJ breech (obviously), 1750 barrel, airgunsmith flat top piston, supersear, knob cocking, my bad because I don't recall who sold me the super great alum barrel band (ordered bright), I think the muzzle protector is a Rhino... Bushy AO variable scope w/el cheapo rings, camo duct tape over gray pipe insulation... very accurate with CPHs.... 8 pumps typical.

The carbine has a Mountain Air valve anchored with set screws, Mountain Air hammer spring adjuster, Mac1 14" .22 barrel and bolt, early Crosman breech, HDD from Steve in NC, Crosman tech forum trigger tune, Uncle Mikes sling swivels, braided leather sling, muzzle brake from Crooked Barn, paintball shop trigger shoe, Simmons 4X shotgun scope, and Cabela scope rings.  The 1389 forend is mounted with a 2250 barrel band, and the cheek pad is pipe insulation covered with camo duct tape.  I used a 2260 tube containing 3 stacked powerlets and a 2250 endcap.

The bright pistol is a 2240 with very early Cutters alloy breech and bolt, HDD and 2-stage sear from Steve, 12" .22 barrel, self modified valve and bicycle innertube grip sleeve.  Scope is a BSA 2X handgun scope with Cabela rings.

The dark pistol is a 1740 with RJM short breech and bolt, my homemade bolt handle and hammer spring adjuster, with self modified valve, 2-stage trigger from Steve, 10" 1377 barrel, bicycle innertube grip sleeve and BSA 2X handgun scope with Cabela rings.

George Ewen's 1740 for PFT

I have experimented with many different homemade triggers but just couldn't get it right. After getting the chance to handle a high end target pistol I tried to apply some of it's design. It had a flatter-longer trigger. After reshaping a Crosman trigger the guard was in the way.,,, (still need to strip and repaint the grip frame) The breech is one that I got on a trade. The grips and barrel shroud are my creations.
he shroud just slides over the for-end of the breech.

Gil Irving Custom 2240

This awesome 2240 has Gil's one a kind (for now) repeating breech.  It's got an internal velocity adjuster (like the other stocks), ported valve, heavier spring, 5 1/2" .22 barrel, brass hammer, custom transfer port, and then the obvious.  It has Gil's wire stock, shroud, tube cover, trigger shoe, safety, co2 cap and muzzle brake.  He polished the frame as well.  With a beautiful pair of grips made by Rick Andres.

Zoned's 1740 Raven

This is the pistol I have been waiting to build for a long time now. Last week the final parts I needed to complete the project arrived and I was on my way. Here is what I can tell you so far.

My initial impressions of the gun were that it was very well balanced for a pistol of its size. I was afraid it would be a bit too heavy with the long steel breech and 10" barrel, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it felt quite nice in my hand. Not too heavy or off balanced towards the front or rear at all. It actually balances quite well considering. Keep in mind that the shroud is just aluminum tube that is basically empty for the last 5" so it doesn't weigh very much on the front end. I loaded up a CO2 powerlet, fired a piercing shot and then loaded a .177cal RWS Basic wadcutter pellet into the chamber. This breech, bolt and barrel combo feeds pellets better than any gun I own. It is super smooth with no pellet hang up, which the Crosman 22XX and 13XX are notorious for. I took aim at my target and pulled the trigger slowly but deliberately and all I heard was the hammer hitting the valve stem, then the pellet hitting the target. Man, this thing is quiet! It’s perfect for my backyard shooting needs. I could shoot this thing in my bedroom and no one else in the house would hear it, it's that quiet. The trigger pull was very smooth with a crisp release at ~2lbs. I took a couple more shots at the target to get the red dot sighted in and then I shot a couple of groups. One was a 10 shot off hand group at 12 meters that I could cover with a dime. The other was a 5 shot group at 12 meters, with the gun loosely rested on a soft and somewhat shaky rest and it was no more than 1/4" ctc. There are 2 photos of the groups I shot at the end of this post. Needless to say, I was very content with the accuracy of this pistol, especially considering I was shooting my favorite cheapo wadcutter pellet. I have literally thousands of those RWS Basics on hand and all of my .177cal guns love them. They work perfect for punching paper, plinking at cans and whacking the occasional small pest if needed. I consider myself very lucky to own yet another .177cal that shoots cheap pellets, accurately.

I don't have any chrony numbers yet, but I will get around to testing all that out later. My best guess is, on low power with the hdd, I am pushing those 7.0gr pellets in the mid 500-600fps range. That is more than enough power to punch through paper and plink all day long at my 15 meter max distance backyard range. I can increase the preload on the hammer spring with the power adjuster and get more power, but at the cost of fewer shots per CO2 powerlet. I don't have a shot count per cartridge yet either, as I am still on the first one after 40+ shots. It looks like I will be getting quite a few shots per powerlet with this setup, which is what I was aiming for with the hdd, stock valve and power adjuster set on low.

I will get you guys some numbers on the fps and shot count here shortly to confirm what this setup is putting out. I can tell you that I am very happy with the results though. What matters most to me, is that it puts the pellets where I aim at the distance I shoot at. Everything else is gravy.

I have many people to thank for helping me with this project. I couldn't have done it without you guys! I would like to thank Grant Stace the Kiwi for his incredible breech (good ol' #59) and integrated barrel band with polished stainless steel extended bolt and handle, blued steel power adjuster with his aftermarket hammer spring and delrin guide and last but not least a winged CO2 cap from him as well. All top shelf parts in form, looks and function. Grant’s parts make any gun better and that’s a fact. I would also like to thank Mike Tiehen at TKO Airguns for his 9" Stage V barrel shroud, black anodized target trigger, complete trigger kit with hardened sear and trigger pins, lightened trigger spring and delrin spring guide and the 10" .177cal Crosman barrel on which he custom crowned and polished the lead in for me. Your stuff is terrific Mike! I love the trigger and the trigger kit and it makes a huge difference in performance over the stock configuration. The shroud looks great and performs fantastic. Thanks for all the goodies that you sent me gratis! I owe you big time. I want to thank BigEd aka Ed Stack for making me a custom left handed RJ HDD for my build. He didn't have any of these made and went out of his way to custom machine me a left hander for an RJ breech. I needed the RJ breech type since Grant bores his bolt chamber to the same dimensions as the RJ Machine breeches. It works great Ed, fits like a glove. Thanks go out to Michael Chavka for the beautiful and highly functional black tactical target style grips that he custom made for me. They are coated with truck bed liner for that nice black look and superb durability that I wanted. They are extremely comfortable to shoot with and they look terrific. Lastly, I would like to thank my son Scott for buying me the Walther Top Point II 4 MOA red dot sight that is sitting on top of the gun. Great Father's day gift Scott, it works perfect.

James Hughes' 2240

I just completed my 2240 this weekend. Been working on it slowly for a few months, shooting it a lot between mods so I can really see what each of them do. I was going for a long range iron sights rig, and I believe I have done it. There is an old steel 15" wheel that is 85 yards from my back porch, and it has become my favorite off-hand target. 9 out of 10 times, I am hitting it. The pistol loves Kodiaks, and CPL pellets. Mods are:

Crooked Barn breech and bolt
Crosman 2289 Bbl, re-crowned and polished lead-in
True muzzle brake, maker unknown
Dual Power hammer setup, maker unknown
HW rear sight
Polished valve
Silicone sealed transfer port
Extra Crosman Bbl band

I am not sure of the velocity, but it will put a CPL through a milk jug full of water and keep on moving fast at 25 yards. This is a joy to shoot, and I hope you like it as much as I do.

Stephane's Custom Stace 2240

- Grant Stace breech & bolt with cross dovetail to fit the LPA sight + large barrel band
- Grant Stace roller trigger
- Grant Stace safety
- Grant Stace winged gas cap
- Art's power adjuster
- Rick's walnut grips
- Front fiber optic sight from Crooked Barn
- BOSS 12gr valve from Crooked Barn
- LPA sight from Crooked Barn
- Poly tube transfer port mod
- Sear/trigger/hammer polish mod
- Lighter trigger spring

I wanted a very classic (short barreled) 2240 with a beefy look.

Al Stone's 2240

This is my first attempt to customize a 2240, I have done other guns in the past but never a Crosman, I live in the UK and Crosman is not the most popular airgun manufacturer but gaining ground with the Disco and Marauder, the problem is the price over here nearly twice what it is in the States.

I picked a 2240 for something to do this winter and as I post mostly on North American forums I figured out that I had better get familiar with Crosman products. I found the 2240 easy to work on and the basic gun well made, but spoiled by the use of plastic parts and not being available in .177 over the counter.

The criteria for the customization was that I should do away with the rifle type bolt, (I dislike rifle bolts on pistols) convert to .177 and design a easy to use power adjuster, also I wanted the mods to be in brass.

So to start with, I bought a new standard 2240 and a 10 ¼ .177 barrel and machined a breech to fit, the middle of the breech can be slid out and replaced with a .22 barrel and bolt assembly, the bolt itself is a straight pull to cock and when pushed forward it drops into a recess to lock it in place, it will also stay where you put it, no sliding forward when loading the pistol with it pointing down.

The rear of the breech is a five stage power adjuster, you just need to turn the adjuster ring through 90 deg to cover the full range, at the moment on the lowest setting it shoots around 530fps at 60*F with a very flat shot string, this can be turned up to around 575fps.

Also on the breech is a compact rear sight with adjustment for height and windage and the front sight is also adjustable and it sits on the end of the bit that keeps the noise level down, I have also fitted two barrel bands as I think it keeps the barrel more stable than the little screw under the breech to hold it down.

The trigger unit has had a complete rebuild with bushings for the trigger pivot and a wide shoe for comfort, also a trigger stop and lighter spring, and lastly a pair of carved grips slightly fatter than the originals.

All in all I am pleased with the results also it shoots well, using a bench rest it will shoot 16mm groups at 20m using iron sights, which is comparable to my Rohm target pistol, which makes me very happy with the result.
